6091 Claremont Avenue, Oakland,Cal., July 29,1914. Mr John Muir, Martinez, Cal.- Dear Mr. Muir, Once more I have
taken literary liberties with your name. I am sending you separately my attempt to tell in 1,700 words what 1,700 members
of your Sierra Club feel. 'T were easier to describe a Grand Canon full of Yosemites than to begin to express our appreciation
of all you have done for all of us who have learned to follow in your footsteps. Also, I have sent you a copy of my compilation
of theories on the GENESIS AND REVELATIONS OF YOSEMITE, published in the POPULAR SCIENCE MONTHLY. My latest work will be
a little book for the Tourist Association or Central California, entitled TRAMPING TRIPS, ROUNDABOUT SAN FRANCISCO, in which
I will pointout the paths that lead to our lovable little wildernesses nearby the homes of a million residents of the Bay
Region. As one of your disciples, I have endeavored during the past dozen year to get the work-roped hivers in the cities
to fare forth afoot and find what Nature has in store for them near at hand. We had charge of the Le Conte Memorial Lodge
last spring and summer, passing six delightful months in the Valley. I realise how busy you are, and trust that you will
not reply, if it will inconvenience you. So, I am only sending you more of my best wishes, and remain, Very Respectfully
yours, illegible 05804
