8 ft in diameter Martinez, July 1, 1897 My dear Mr Lukens Your little visit at our house was greatly enjoyed by us all.
we hope you got home safely found your family well. I have just been writing to Sargent about those wonderful oaks 16 ft in
diameter Douglas Spruce 400 to 500 ft high, also about the Paton hemlock in the San Gabriel Mountains Now Ill be on Puget
Sound this summer with Sargent I write now for exact information as to how we will find those immense Douglas spruces. Also
give me the address of those glorious oaks. If after you visit them you find them 16 ft in dia I will promise to come right
down see them myself. Remember me to Mrs Lukens convey my thanks for her kindness when I was in Pasadena last summer, remember
me to
