COSMOPOLITAN MAGAZINE 1789 BROADWAY New York, July 3 1906 Dear Mr. Muir Jack London is about to undertake an adventurous
voyage aroundthe world in a 45-foot boat, accompanied only by Mrs London, a male friend, a cook and cabin boy. He will write
a series of articles about his voyage for the Cosmopolitan. A feature of his articles will be quotations from sealed letters
to be opened while at sea. These letters will be written by well-known persons. They are to be of two hundred to three hundred
words each, and are supposed to contain brief sentiments, words of cheer, etc. We should esteem it a great favor if you would
contribute one of these letters, for which we are willing to pay at the rate of ten cents a word. I would suggest that you
write something on Mr. London's opportunities for observing nature with a scientific eye. Will you kindly send your communication
to the editor of the Cosmopolitan, that they may be credited and a check sent to you. It will then be sealed and forwarded
with any superscription on the envelope which you may suggest. Yours very truly Bailey Millard John Muir Esq 03745
