J. D. BICKNELL Los Angles, Cal., July. 10, 1907. Dear Muir:- Thank you for the good letter --- but I have taken a half
hour off to swear over it at the idea that you should be here and I didn't see you. That really is too much It is so long
since I have allowed anyone to talk to me; and you are about the only person that I can listen to with philosophy for a long
time. Glad you had the visit with the Sellers. They are good people --- and I am glad they are converted to God's Country.
You ought to have been here about now; for while the school teachers are a nuisance en masse there are some that are worth
while --- particularly among the Indian teachers of whom we have been having some at the house this week. It is a marvel to
me to see the Government officially carrying ----2 out my plans for which I was nearly hanged twenty years ago. They are
even encouraging the Indians to keep their own songs, and stories, and arts Wouldn't that jar you after a century in which
they have tried to make these First Americans ashamed of themselves and their parents, and their arts? I enclose something
that has just come to me from long ago, thinking you may enjoy it. When you get done, send it back. It is something I wrote
when we were both younger. Our love to you and to the dear girls, Always, Your Friend, illegible 03891
