Martinez, Nov. 4, 1907. Mr. O. C. Haslett, San Francisco. Dear Sir:- You are undoubtedly right in your contention as
to the Red Fir Douglas Spruce, These trees are not in the least alike. The cones of the Red Fir-Abies magnifica grow straight
upright on the upper branches. Those of the Douglas Spruce- Pseudo tsuga Douglasii hang down from the ends of the branchlets.
The leaves also are very different as doubtless you well know. I have not yet published anything on the Caucasus, or indeed
on any part of my long Journey abroad. You should, as a lover of forests, join the Sierra Club and study with others on the
summer outings. Faithfully yours, John Muir.
