John Muir Sep. 25th 1896 My dear Mr. Lukens We have been up the San Bernardino Mts to Squirrel Inn along the ridge down
by city creek canon - a fine instructive trip. I am traveling with the U.S. Forestry Commission have been nearly all summer
inspecting forests in general, parks reservations, the Commission was appointed by the National Academy of Sciences, at request
of the Government the members are Prof. C. S. Sargent chairman, Prof Brewer of Yale Dr. Arnold Hague, U.S. Geologist Alexander
Agassiz, General Abbot U.S.A. Gifford Pinchot We are going to San Jacinto Mtns thence to the Grand Colorado Canon etc. Then
I return home expect to see you on the way with regards to
