Woods. BY DIRECT WIRE TO THE TIMES. WASHINGTON, Jan. 12.--- Exclusive Dispatch. William Kent of Chicago, now at Kentfield,
Cal., has just deeded to the United States government a tract of land of 295 acres of natural redwood forest on the southern
slope of Mount Tamalpais, about six miles from San Francisco. The land was deeded to the government with the approval of Forester
Gifford Pinchot, chief of the United States Forest Service. It is the intention to name the national forest Muir Woods after
John Muir, the noted naturalist. The giants of redwood canon now will be given permanent protection by virtue of the act of
June 8, 1906, which provides that objects of scientific interest may be declared national monuments if such action is deemed
