Riverside, Calif., Apr. 16, 1907. Mr. John Muir. Martinez, Calif. My dear Mr. Muir:- We have been looking forward
to your visit, and now we are anxious to have you come and attend the formal opening of the new mountain boulevard on the
afternoon of the 26th Of April. A cross which we have been building will be dedicated to the memory of Father. Junipero Serra,
Bishop Conaty conducting the erercises. In the evening there will be a banquet. You may omit any part of the services in which
you do not take special interest but we need your presence, and your blessing on the mountain and the new road. The banquet
speeches will be devoted to good roads, Bishop Conaty taking leading part and Robert J. Burdette acting as toastmaster. We
have your verse Climb the Mountains lettered upon a hammered copper plate. Surely you should be here when the tablet is placed
upon the boulder where the beautiful words will be a perpetual inspiration to all who pass thatway. 03866
