Martinez, Sep. 9, 1914 Dear Merriams, I am glad to get tidings of you all after so long a silence, telling you are again
settled in your Tamalpais ridge home. Strange how we have been kept apart while so few miles lie between us. Right now I'm
unfit to travel anywhere on account of after effects of a miserable attack of grippe. But I'm getting better and hope ere
long to be able to spend a day or two with you to recall langsyne. Helen is at her favorite desert home near Daggett, and
is very happy with her three lively merry boys. Wanda has four sons. The youngest arrived two weeks ago. I would be delighted
to see you here any day, and with all good wishes am ever faithfully your friend JOHN MUIR05844
