in margin: A little trip with you Burroughs will be mighty tempting. Ill hope it may be managed 62 Martinez, July 9, 1898
My dear Johnson. I hope to get away from here in August, go around by the great lakes spend a few days in my old haunts
in the Canada woods go south with Sargent Canby along the Alleghenies to see the grand trees there in their autumn golden
plumage, then home. This all save a day or so in New York to salute you perhaps a day in Boston. I'm glad the reserves are
not lost. But how comes? it you Pinchot have gone back on the military management when it has proved so successful, special
agents etc so complete failures? Ever Yours, John Muir
