Until the completion of a trestle for the Central Pacific Railroad Co. through
Oakland, transcontinental trains travelled via tracks of the San Francisco and Alameda
Railroad Co., terminating at Pacific Junction in Alameda, Calif. (shown) where ferries could
take passengers onward to San Francisco. The terminal occupied the foot of Pacific Avenue.
