Normal School. San Jose, Cal. May 8, 1878. Dear Mr. Muir, You were very kind to send the specimens they are giving me
much pleasure. All are new to me except the Pellaea, which was sent to us last year from Plumas Co.? The Botrychium is a little
treasure. I see it is set down to your credit in the list of Cal. ferus. The Cassiope and some of the Gentians must be very
beautiful when growing. I am sorry to have so little time for the flowers this spring. Work with them is my recreation; very
