letterhead February 9th 1900 Dr John Muir Martinez - Cal. Dear Sir, I have more reason to remember you than you
can have for keeping my name in memory. For since you came to me in the State Fairgrounds with your clocks asked for a place
to set them, I have had great personal interest in your fortunes. It was in Madison, Wisconsin, but I am not sure of the year
- was it 1860? I had charge of what was called the Department of the Fine Arts , and of the large building on the hill which
afterwards was a military hospital. I knew you as a student in the University as a teacher of a district schools. Henry Butler
