Description:
Blair's Rangers marching in the 1943 Fourth of July parade. Linwood "Sarge" Blair is marching in the front row, at the far
right end. He organized the Rangers as a memorial to his son, Walter, whose plane was shot down by the Luftwaffe and never
recovered. Blair's Rangers were a volunteer civil defense unit of 30-40 boys, ages 9-17. They were trained to patrol San Bruno
Mountain for possible saboteurs or parachutists. Sarge Blair described his mission thusly: "I want to bring home to the youngsters
the realization of what it means to be an American and that anything worthwhile doesn't come easy." Sarge was a true patriot.
