Abstract:
The Commercial Hotel, located at 182 West Center Street (now Lincoln Avenue) at the corner of Lemon Street; previously known
as the Anaheim Hotel, which was built by Anaheim's second mayor, Henry Kroeger, and later sold to the hotel's proprietor,
Max Nebelung; by 1890 the hotel's name was changed from the Anaheim Hotel to the Commercial Hotel and in 1905 was sold to
John Ziegler; located on the site later occupied by the Hotel Valencia, built by Ziegler, which opened in 1916 and burned
down May 4, 1977; image shows full view of hotel with one man standing at lower left corner in front of the hotel, and another
man near a horse-drawn vehicle at far right; sign above ground floor doorway on left side of hotel reads "NEW COMMERCIAL HOTEL"
; two rectangular signs on pillars along right side of hotel read "Union ... [.illeg.] / Anaheim Beer / Anaheim, Calif." and
two round signs read "PRIME BEER".
