Home, Jan. 12, 1914 Darling Helen. How are you now? I always think of you, especially in black foggy rainy lung-choking
weather, This day is one of the darkest of the melancholy winter, How the rain pours the Alhambra Creek roars after being
silent for 3 years I'm so glad these storms don't reach your desert. Ive been grippe-choked several weeks but am getting
better by keeping close to my den fire. I hope you got some grocery odds ends I ordered a week or two ago. Ever your devoted
father John Muir When you want anything let me know
