Hannegan/Wiley Johnson House
San Marcos (Calif.) -- Historical Houses
Description:
This house was part of the “Illinois colony” which consisted of a group of homes built at the turn of the century by immigrants
from Illinois. The six immigrants purchased land in the Richland area of early San Marcos and moved out together. Wiley
Johnson, a former banker, built his house on a hill between the houses of Charles Hartshorns and Simon Morgan. His house
was two stories and square in construction. Johnson improved his land by planting an orchard and digging a well. In 1905
Johnson built a second house not far from the first. His first house, the address now, 515 Bougher Rd, San Marcos, was eventually
purchased by the Hannegans who lived in it for more than 30 years.
