I did so the same (Tuesday) evening and went to the vilage of Three Oaks but not being suited with the shop there I started
next morning for Avery where I found a shop with one whip- ple tree lathe and four for broom fork hoe illegible handles. After
some talk with the owners they told me if I could find something else to do for a week or two they would then give me a chance
to begin on the whipple-tree lathe so I start- ed out towards the sawmill 3 where their timber came from as there was
a good deal of stir there it being a new get-up 2 1/2 miles from the station on arriving there I was tackled by one man who
seemed eager to know whether I was a carpenter as he wanted a house built and on my intimating that I had boarded with a house
builder and having often heard him speak of the business of course knew something about it (ha ha). I was urged to take the
job which I readily did and am now in full blast I have nearly finished heving the timbers and get along finely, three other
men are trying to engage my services
