(In response to a letter inquiring as to the progress of his book on Alaska, for which Houghton Mifflin Co. had asked me to
prepare the illustrations) Martinez, May 7, 1914. Dear Mr. Gleason: I'm sorry to hear you have had the grippe. I too
have had a long rough attack of the vile disease, lasting most of the winter. Glad you are going to Alaska, hut I'll not be
able to go with you. The book comes on slowly, at a mere grippe pace. I have a large number of drawings for reproduction,
and I wish you were here to make 'em under my directions, at any cost. The book goes to Houghton Mifflin Co., - promised them
ten years ago. After this is off my hands I hope to go on with my autobio graphical story, - an endless job. With kindest
regards to Mrs. Gleason, and wishing you all good luck in your fine work, I am ever Yours faithfully .John Muir. 05744
