2. Muir and yourself and the children, I am indeed, Faithfully yours, R.U. Johnson. .P. S. I ought to say that there
has been found to be an error in the description of the new Yosemite Park, the error of the enrolling clerk. After consulting
with A. H. Ward of Mariposa, who seems to be a first-class man and who is dead against the Yosemite ring, I have concluded
to ask the Public Lands Committee, in rectifying this clerical error, to add two of the townships so as to join the new reservation
to the Big Tree ground, and then to omit from the new park all lands lying south and west of the Merced River, the south fork
of the Merced River, and Devils Gulch. This is the land west of Wawona which is largely occupied by ranches and is not adapted
to park purposes. Will you tell me whether you think this advisable or not? Of course our first intention was to include the
Big Trees, but the land-office description by townships did not hit the mark. Very sincerely yours, R.U.J. 01432
