Description:
Craftsman Bungalow, located at 1312 East Palmyra Avenue, Orange, California, 2003. Image shows front view of the house which
was originally designed and constructed ca. 1910 for the rancher Jurgen [George] Schmetgen and his wife, Rebecca, by the Orange
Contracting and Milling Company. The one-story bungalow has a front-facing gable roof with lap siding on the facades. Elephantine
posts on bases covered with lap siding support the full entry porch, and a three-section transom, with side windows and center
louvered vent, is set into the gable face. On either side of the front door are matching fixed windows with smaller double-hung
side windows and a multipaned transom. A photograph of the home was featured on page 54 of "Beautiful Orange Homes, " a promotional
brochure from the early 1920s that featured examples of design and construction by Orange Contracting & Milling Company.
