Description:
Liberated Church Press, Vol 1 (4), Sept 20, 1969, newsletter includes an article about the Free Church Memorial for Ho Chi Minh on September 5, 1969. The memorial service for Ho Chi Minh, organized by Anthony Nugent and other clergy of the Free Church, met with outrage by local churches, especially due to placing Ho Chi Minh's picture on the cross. Tom Hayden brought hundreds of students from UC-Berkeley and also delivered a eulogy. Over a thousand attended. As part of the service, the Black Panthers marched up to the altar and dropped off bullets and casings. The service received national attention. In the December 1969 issue of Harper's Magazine, it was described as "a ceremony of calculated scandalization." Trinity Methodist refused to allow the Free Church to use their sanctuary again.Publisher:
