DANIEL CARTER BEARD, FLUSHING, L.I. December 19, 1907. Mr. John Muir, Martinez, California. My dear Mr. Muir:- I
am sending you a copy of my latest book, one of an edition of twelve copies. In the hurry to have these books published before
the holidays, several obvious typographical errors have occurred and probably some others which have escaped my eye, but the
original notes from which the most serious parts of the book were written, were carefully and conscientiously made and I trust
some of them may be of value to even persons like you of wide research and observation, and that the fake stories may at least
prove amusing. 03996 Kindly remember that the book is written for boys and I have endeavored to make it more interesting
by the introduction of some fanciful camp fire stories intermixed with the more serious notes end drawings. I am, Cordially
