CAMBRIDGE, MASS., May 4, 1906. Mr, John Muir, Adamana, Arizona. My dear Mr. Muir:- I must apologize for my tardy acknowledgment
of your very courteous letter, but my plans were naturally rather upset by the destruction of San Francisco, and I was compelled
to hurry home direct from Spokane. It is a source of much regret to me that I was not in a position to accept your kind invitation,
as I do not know of anything which I should have enjoyed more than admiring the wonders of Adamana in your company. I hope
another year, if I am fortunate enough to be in California, that I shall have the pleasure of seeing you. Perhaps, however,
something may call you to this part of the country before that time. With kindest regards, I am Very sincerely yours,
