Martinez, June 3, 1909. Dear Mrs Hooker Oh why left I your home why did I tempt Del Monte etc The pleasant weeks at West
Adams stand out in fond memory apart from all others. And to think I had to be absent when Marian is with you Mr Browne of
the Dial I saw Mr Burroughs off for Honolulu. Now he writes he can't get back on account crowded steamers. I've been pegging
sway in my lonely den among my note books, have found lots of animal stories full of humanity, but none with traits so telling
as those revealed in Stickeen Still they all in some degree declare God's love, offer opportunities for saying good words
for our poor earthborn companions fellow mortals So I think it may be worth while to try to make them readable get them published.
