May, 1907. Dear Mr. Miller, From being the freest, least fettered of mortals for nearly l/2 a century, and I cannot with
any fair reason complain that in these latter days I am tethered to a rather short rope, still I sincerely regret not being
able to attend the formal opening of the new mountain boulevard next Friday and meeting so many interesting men.The most I
can now look forward to is a day or two on your hills toward the end of May. The breaking up of my family, the illness of
my daughter H elen , family affairs--especially the long boundedness as I have never been bound before -- still I am looking
forward hopefully to a few more years blessed wanderings before the sun goes down. Rough draft of letter, in Muir's handwrting
