Martinez, Jan 26/05 Dear Mr. Johnson: Action on the bill was postponed last Tuesday after an all day dreary fluffy debate,
to be taken up again next Thrusday Feb 2d Opponents have fired all their amunition, mostly blank sham cartridges abuse, while
our best heaviest is still in the locker. They claim that if the question had been put to vote we would have been defeated
by 3 or 4 votes. We certainly would not, next Thursday they will I guess be wiser sadder. I feel more confident than ever.
Have not written to the president The assurance sought by Colby was of course out of the question. Ever Yours John Muir
