Like John Burroughs on the Hudson, your life was devoted almost entirely to natural research and discovery. You gave to the
world the first scientific knowledge of the region along the Pacific slope. You evolved that theory that the Yosemite Valley
was scooped out by glacial erosion and you proved it in the face of all the wise men of the century. It is interesting to
