November 19th, 1896. R. W. GILDER, EDITOR. R. U. JOHNSON, ASSOCIATE EDITOR. C. C. BUEL, ASSISTANT EDITOR. Mr. John
Muir, Martinez, Cal. My dear Muir:- I inclose herewith a letter from Mr. McClure of the MoClure Syndicate and Magazine.
Prof. Sargent (with whom I have been talking over the matter to-day) and I both think that you could do a great deal of good
by writing these articles, and we trust the terms will be satisfactory to you. In any event, please communicate direct with
Mr. McClure as his offer is, of course, only a tentative one, and is dependent upon whether he can illegible handle the material
of which I have illegible . I have urged the matter upon him as one of public interest and in the public service, and I think
he is much interested in it. Prof. Sargent is well and things look bright at Washington for progress in forestry reform.
Secretary Francis goes so far as to say that he only accepted the Secretaryship of the Interior upon the urging of his wife
that he might be in a position to do something for forestry reform. illegible R. u. Johnson illegible 02175
