1 Dear Mr Muir I wrote you a scrap of a note on my way to San Francisco and, Maude and Marian kept me so busy after I
got into the Hooker home that I did not have a moment's time to write anyone. I expected to stay three days and remained two
weeks so we had such a happy trio while Ellie and Mrs. Hooker were on business in Los Angeles. Ellie attended to details of
the new school she has bought with Maude, a rival which they will thus put out of business by absorbing. I had three nice
days with Mrs Hooker after her return to her cozy home, but she would not write nor ignore me as a guest so I started alone
on my voyage of discovery into the big woods of Humboldt Co. I bought my ticket for Eureka coming overland by R. R. and auto
stage through a most lovely region and finding wondrous comfortable lodgment here right in the heart of the big redwoods.
I find I can have a little rabbit of a horse at my disposal 05267 2 so I shall remain some days, or weeks may be, jogging
about the lovely drives on Eel River before I join Donald at Branscomb. I would give anything if he were equal to taking that
bumping? trip overland, for he would love the scenery and find this ranch, where I am sole boarder at present, more comfortable
by far then Branscomb, but I dare not advise the trip, so I will join him later in September and together go south when it
is cooler in Pasadena. I hope you have been able to do good work in Martinez and that you have made yourself comfortable
and not tried to back it until you have lost all that plump rosiness you brought back with you from African wilds. I rejoice
with you in your added honors of grandparent. I presume the honor has not lost weight by the frequency of bestowal. I shall
feel as though the fullness of life had been reached when that time comes. Meanwhile I'm enjoying two very lively little human
animals here aged two and four respectively. Dont 05267
