Mss., signed. Gift to the Oakland Public Library from the Oakland Museum, 1962. Previously owned by Joe Peralta, son of Vicente Peralta. Letters written by descendants of Don Luis Maria Peralta, et al., pertaining to Spanish- and Mexican-era land grants and their subsequent adjudication in United States courts. In Spanish. Title from: Oakland History Room collection description. Contents: 1) Letter dated Jan. 1, 1845 from Jose de Jesus Martinez, Miguel Antono Peralta and Pedro Higuera to an unnamed official petitioning for possession of the sobrantes (surplus parcels) left over from a land grant to Manuel Baca & Guillermo Guisquel; 2) Letter dated Aug. 24, 1847 from Ygnacio Peralta to Victor Castro, alcalde at San Pablo. Pages stained by water; 3) Letter dated Oct. 1, 1857 from Ygnacio Peralta to his sister, Josefa Peralta in San Jose, concerning disputes over ownership of Rancho San Antonio.
