nearly a year ago, I wrote you a great long letter, enclosing a New York Draft, for 100., from C. H. Jay. You should have
received it, about the time you were in the Yosemite Valley, with our president. And as I learned afterwards, that you had
left imediately after that, for Siberia, with an exploration party; so when I received no answer, I concluded that your abscence
accounted for it. But you must have returned long before this; and my only conclusion now is, that you have done as I sometimes
do, when I get a long interesting letter from a friend, I postpone the answer, till I can find the time to do justice to it.
the longer the postponement the harder it is to begin; so the letter may never be answered. I just remember that I wrote a
short note of inquiry, about a month after sending the draft; but received no answer. It was then 03379
