May 16th, 187l . Dear John Muir, Coming in last night from a hard day's work in examining classes at the Girls' High School,
who should I find but Mr. Emerson, and of course you know the rest. How weariness fled and my delight was full, you do not
need to he told. But if there is any joy of angels to be had in the flesh, it is that of finding your soul confirmed in its
faith through the soul of another . And so, dear friend, my joy in you was full, and I laugh to think how they go up to the
mountains, the beautiful ones, to find you in the confessional, the only soul I know whom the mountains fully own and bless.
Mr. Emerson says he wants to know Mr. Brooks more than ever since seeing you I have laid up in my heart so much that he told
me of his trip, never have I heard him so delightful in conversation, his silver speech flowed on and on and it was hard to
remember engagements, as we both were compelled to do. I wait to talk with you about it. There are more people Yosemite bound,
among them Mr. and Mrs. Libby, friends of mine and of McChesneys. Mc having spoken of you with great, enthusiasm they asked
me for a letter to you Rest of letter evidently lost Jeanne C. Carr 470
