Abbot has requested me to write a notice of the life of his son, my old classmate and chum, in response to a request from
your society for a short memoir to accompany the account of his last fatal expedition. It will give me great pleasure to put
in permanent record my knowledge 2 letterhead of his rare and brilliant life. Will you be good enough to let me know
how much space you wish to devote to this purpose and the date of publication so that I may be able to place in your hands
