Martinez, Dec. 18, 1908. Dear Mr Johnson: We all know that yo u? will do all in your power in the endless fight against
graft of every sort. In particular, the history of forest park-making their preservation on this side of the continent shows
you have always been the most influential tireless leader. I have always wondered that under so many other burdens you have
been able to accompli sh? so much. I have been disabled lately by the Grippe or a severe bronchial cold, which seems likely
to keep me at home all winter. But like yourself I'm doing what I can - how these graft fights consume time I started months
ago to write that little Yosemite book, have made scarce any prgress on account of this miserable Hetch Hetchy destruction
scheme. With best New Years wishes Ever yours faithfully John Muir
