J.M.2.R. W. GILDER, EDITOR. R.U. JONSON, ASSOCIATE EDITOR. C. C. BUEL, ASSISTANT EDITOR. and are worthy of great consideration,
both from their experience and intelligence* The magazine article mentioned advocates the extension of the Sequoia National
Park so as to embrace the Kings River region and the Kaweah and Tule Sequoia groves. The boundaries are there set forth.
The subject is recommended to your favorable consideration and action. Mr. Ward of Hite's Cove has been in to see me about
altering the boundaries of the Yosemite, and we have about agreed that it is best to throw our influence in favor of a moderate
reduction of the mining townships, especially as they are not very parkable. From what I can gather from the California papers
there will be an effort to take off some of the territory which it is very desirable to keep. I shall look the matter up very
carefully by the Land Office reports and go before the Public Lands Committee. Sincerely R.K. Johnson illegible
