letterhead June 3, 1910 Dear Sir: During the past spring some friends admirers of Doctor Merriam created a trust fund
for his benefit, which enables him to devote the illegible er of his life to geological research and to the publication of
monographs illegible mammals? etc. On June 1 he retired from his position of Chief of the Biological Survey to take up this
work. Mrs. Harriman (one of the principal subscribers to the fund) does not desire to figure to con illegible sly in the
