Transcription:
Monday Dear Helen Buel A Telephone Telegraph Co wants to buy a right of way along the boundary line between our ranch
Sugar Company's ranch for which they offered 1000. but I said 1500 dollars to which they made no objection, still the bargain
was not closed as you had to be heard from. They stipulated that no right of way for a power-line would be given by us within
a thousand feet of their Telephone line on account of disturbing electric effects of the former. The only objection I see
before the line is surveyed is that it may cut into the flat ground we own at the head of the Edwards Flat back of Crocket
which may some day be valuable for building lots. If so they should pay more than fifteen hundred. The Company have already
obtained a 15 foot strip on the Sugar Co's line alongside of ours. If you think it worth while you perhaps come up Wednesday
or Thursday or wait until I telegraph when the papers are ready for your signatures. Trusting you are all well as we are.
Faithfully yours John Muir
