Martinez, Jan. 7, 1909. Dear Mr Calkins: Many thanks for your long kind plans for getting the books, so often talked about,
off my hands. It looks well, is perfectly delightful if tried I doubtless would be the only one in the company found wanting.
You say suppose you pack up those notes, books, specimens what not . You have no idea how many they are. Your 5 rooms would
be filled to the ceiling poor Mrs Calkins would groan aghast at such housekeeping. I'm trying now to condense arrange the
stuff so as to make it portable available, Keeping the best of it in the bank safe until wanted. Even this seemingly easy
work will take lots of time- especially when so seriously interrupted by business, Yosemite park etc therefore as far as I
