letterhead Feb. 3, 1902. My dear Mr. Muir, I am preparing my annual report on the Varieties of glaciers, and hope you
can give me some information about the Alaskan or other western glaciers. I have not yet had any definite information regarding
the effect of the earthquake of 1899 on the tide-water glaciers; have you? I was very much interested in your account of the
Alaskan glaciers in the Report of the Harriman expedition, and the pictures in the two volumes are splendid. I was at Mt Hood
and Mt Adams last summer and saw their glaciers pretty well, but I had to come home without going to Mt. Rainier, on account
of the illness of Mrs. Reid's mother, resulting, I am sorry to say, in her death. With kind regards I am yours cordially
Harry Fielding Reid. 02950
