by A. C. McClurg Co., of Chicago, to write a book on the California Birds. Mr. F. G. Browne, the head of the publishing department
in that great house, is a warm personal friend of mine arid is very deeply interested in getting out first-class work. They
are reaching much harder for really substantial and worthy books than for mere peddlers. He has wanted for a long time to
