Description:
Elaine Davis, dressed in a Girl Scout uniform, standing at base of original fountain for the Orange Plaza, Orange, California,
June, 1944. Elaine is ten years and nine months old in this photograph. Behind her are some of the houses just outside of
the park. The fountain is dry and she is posed by three of the fountain's decorative herons. When the fountain was in use,
the herons spouted streams of water. The original three-tiered fountain, decorated with herons, owls and cat-tails, was installed
in Plaza Park in 1887 and later replaced in 1937 by a tile and electric fountain constructed by the Westinghouse Electric
Company. In 1940 the original fountain was moved to the wading pool next to the Plunge in Orange City Park (renamed Hart
Park in 1964.) It was later placed in storage, restored in 1981 and installed in front of City Council Chambers in Orange.
