ARNOLD ARBORE, HAYVARD UNIVERSITY. Jamaica plain, mass, January 3, 1900. My dear Muir: Thanks for yours of the 1st which
came to hand this morning. I have got to a point now in Crataegus when I have got to see the types of the old authors which
are in London and I shall sail on Wednesday with Mrs. Sargent, expecting to be at home again on the 3rd of February This will
give me ton days in London, which is all the time I shall want, and time enough here after I get back to be ready for our
journey. Do not let anything interfere with your going. Whether your book Is finished or not you will need rest and refreshment,
and a change of scene by that time. Let me find a letter from you when I get home telling me where you want to meet, whether
in St. Louis or San Antonio, and I will then write you as to exact date, etc. I hope you turn over in your mind from, time
to time that greatest effort of your life, that article for The Silva in the Atlan-tic. I have a thousand things to do today
before starting, so good-bye for the moment. Faithfully yours, John Muir, Esq. Martinez, Cal. C.S illegible 02650
