Postal card addressed Mistress Helen Muir, Martinez, California, U.S.A. Chamonix, France, August17, 1893. Dear Helen:
I had a long walk to-day among rocks and trees and beautiful flowers, and all the time could see great mountains covered with
ice. The sun was shining on them and they were very beautiful, and I could see many waterfalls and hear them singing wherever
I went. I wish you could have been with me, but I suppose you'll come sometime when you are old enough. Here in Mama's letter
are some of the flowers I gathered. Many little girls live high up on the mountains and they sometimes have to be tied to
the doors ill when their mama has to leave them to keep them from falling down over the rocks. I'm coming home soon, and then
I'll tell you all about it, and how glad I'll be to see my little girl again. John Muir
