1909 Martinez May 12, 1909 Dear Mrs Hooker, I'm back again in the old home busy clearing my desk brooding old manuscripts
after getting John Burroughs Company safely through the Yosemite trip off for Honolulu. It was fine fun to watch Johns face
so dreamy philosophic while interviewing E Capitan T illegible the snowy booming falls. The trails are still snowblocked,
therefore I was unable to get him high enough for a view of the summit peaks but a ten or twelve mile walk to the Nevada Vernal
falls was enough in the way of climbing to astonish his weary legs. All the Upper Merced Tuolumne region will be glorious
this summer surely you must see it, so must the blessed M D the Pagan. Give them my love believe me ever faithfully gratefully
yours John Muir
