Bancroft Library Martinez, Cal. Oct 6, 1897. My dear Mr Kip. On my return from Alaska a short time ago I found you letter
the photograph of the Juneau hemlock. It is a good picture I thank you for it also for your kind letter. I had Prof Sargent
Mr Canby as companions studying the forest mostly. We had the state rooms occupied by your party the Osborns I often thought
of you all as we sailed again through these charming inland waters I should have been glad to have shown you my favroite Yosemite
places but the forest as you know by a letter I left for you at the Palance Hotel drew me off to the north. But I see you
had a good time anyhow though a short one. With thanks best wishes many pleasant memories I am very truly yours John Muir
