Offices of the Selby Smelting and Lead Co., at 416 Montgomery Street and office of Sutro and Co., adjoining. The condition
of these buildings were some of the freaks of the fire, for although all of the buildings behind and beside these offices
were totally distroyed [sic] as well as those across the street, yet Selby's office was not injured in the least, not even
the glass doors or windows being injured or broken, although the sign was somewhat scorched. It may be that the surrounding
building being so high and burning so fiercly [sic] that the demand for air was so great that a down-take of air occurred
over these small and low buildings and the air rushing down and then away from these low buildings kept the heat from them
until the surrounding buildings were totally distroyed [sic].
