Note:
From the Gaia Pacifica: The Art of Activism Exhibition organized by Mary Hsi at Centro Cultural de la Raza (April 14-May 6,
1989). An oil derrick was built out of wood in a triangular shape. It is suspended above another triangle which has been
cut and painted to look like water and waves. The pumping arm of the derrick has two fish hanging from it (each decorated
with part of California's state flag) and a barrel. Another barrel sits to the side of the structure. A sign on the derrick
makes the point: Danger, Contaminated Water, Keep Out.
