Full title:May Mukai, Japanese American girl evacuated from the West Coast, begins the process of making a basket in a factory
in Cleveland, as Florence Uyeda, another evacuee girl, and Rose Packard look on. While the two Japanese American girls had
been on the job only two and three weeks, respectively, when this picture was made, they were producing about 480 baskets,
each, per day. Their pay is $3.20 for an 8-hour day, plus board and room. May, whose parents are in Hawaii, formerly lived
in Berkeley, California, where she attended the University of California for two years. Florence is from Oakland, California.
Both girls lived at the Central Utah Relocation Center before coming to Cleveland.<lb/> Photographer: Brumbach<lb/> Cleveland,
