Cruikshank credits Captain Frederick Marryat (anchor emblem) with the design for this caricature of a seated man tortured
by small, ghoulish creatures.
French caricaturist Honore Daumier (1808-1879) adopted the idea of "The Cholic" (1989.21.31) and "The Head Ache" in lithographs
made while incarcerated at Sainte-Pelagie prison and published in Le Charivari in 1833 (see 1995.24.4).
